Lauderdale AWARE hosted its biannual Culture and Compassion Retreat on September 20-22 at Lakeshore Camp in Eva, TN. Students from both Ripley and Halls discussed how to overcome prejudice, stereotypes, bias, discrimination, and negative labels through showing compassion, vulnerability, and establishing genuine relationships. Lauderdale County students described the experience as transformational and healing. These efforts are to help students cope with issues that arise in interactions with other students and to become leaders in brining transformational change to their school's culture.
This retreat is just one of several similar sessions that AWARE hosts for Lauderdale County students each year. To learn more about the impact of Project AWARE and its initiatives, please feel free to contact your child's principal.
