The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) and National Weather Service (NWS) are sponsoring Severe Weather Awareness Week on February 19-25, 2023. All Lauderdale County Schools campuses participated in today’s statewide tornado drill held at 9:30AM to ensure that students and staff are well-prepared in the event of a tornado emergency.

Molly Shands graduated from Halls High School in 2017. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Memphis in 2021, where she studied Management with a minor in real estate.
Molly is a Student Support Specialist with the TCAT Northwest - Ripley campus. She enjoys helping high school students and graduates determine and advance their future careers and lives.

Cody Peery is a 2010 graduate of Halls High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Freed-Hardeman University and his Master of Ministry degree in Homiletics and Ministerial Counseling from Heritage Christian University.
Cody is currently a youth and family minister. His favorite part of his role is helping kids and families become stronger units by navigating through uplifting and challenging times.

Earlier this morning, a call came in to law enforcement about the potential of a weapon on a school bus. Ripley PD and the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Dept. responded quickly and found the bus arriving on campus at Ripley Elementary. A thorough search was conducted by law enforcement and the call turned out to be a false alarm and all is clear. We are thankful for our law enforcement partners and their quick and thorough response.

Quawanda Ward Wilson is a 2003 graduate of Ripley High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Lane College in 2007.
Quawanda is currently an educator with Haywood County Schools. Her favorite part of education is impacting and molding young minds.

Our next #LauderdaleProud feature is Chief Master Sergeant Richard Barbee!
Chief Master Sergeant Richard Barbee graduated from Ripley High School in 1985. He has earned degrees from Community College of the Air Force, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and Central Michigan University.
Chief Barbee served in the United States Air Force at locations around the world. His station assignments included Louisiana, Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, Hawaii, Korea, and Japan. Chief Barbee was deployed to Balad Air Base in Iraq in support of the Global War on Terrorism and Iraqi Freedom. Chief Barbee served for 30 years and his career culminated at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., as the Armament Career Field Manager.
He currently serves as a Senior Acquisitions System Engineer for Global Hawk. His favorite part of his career is working on new advanced aircrafts and solving complex electrical and mechanical issues.
Chief Master Sergeant Barbee is another reason for us to be #LauderdaleProud! We thank you for your service!

Missy Patton Rogers, Ed.D., graduated from Halls High School in 1996. She has earned degrees from Dyersburg State Community College, University of Memphis, and Trevecca Nazarene University. She has also earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D) degree from Capella University.
For 20 years prior to teaching, Dr. Rogers was an Emergency Medical Dispatcher and an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with West Tennessee Healthcare. She made the decision in her early thirties to enroll in college and earn her bachelor’s degree. She shares her journey with her students as a reminder to never give up on their dreams, even when life turns a different direction. Her favorite part of her teaching career is having the opportunity to teach and nurture the children of her hometown.
Dr. Rogers is another reason for us to be #LauderdaleProud!

Krista Newman Fleming is a 2003 graduate of Halls High School. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from University of Tennessee – Martin as well as her Professional Coder certification from the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Krista is a Billing manager and Certified Professional Medical Coder for Dr. Zaidi and Associates, and Ripley Medical Clinic. She enjoys learning and sharing new knowledge with her peers, and being challenged in her work. However, Krista’s favorite part of her career are the interactions and relationships she has built with patients over the years.

Tamara is a Human Resources Training and Development Specialist for Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency in Nashville. She has received a Certified Professional (CP) certification from the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) as well as Instructional Design and Facilitator certifications from the Association for Talent Development (ATD). Tamara’s favorite part of her career is helping employees achieve greatness at their highest levels.
