“Hi, everyone!”
“Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year!”
“What’s going on with you?”
These were the excited greetings expressed by members of the Lauderdale County Family Resource Center (FRC) Advisory Council at the first meeting of the school year.
The Advisory Council is represented by parents and community leaders from Halls, Ripley, and Henning. They also monitor the Family Resource Center goals and projects. The Council was excited to welcome Mrs. Candice Chambers of Gates as a new member. Other community members serving on the FRC Advisory Council are Robert Toliver, Daisy Owens, Marsha Thompson, Paula Hamby, and Rev. LaJoy Currie.
Ollie Fields, FRC Director, is thankful for the Advisory Council’s commitment to service as they continue to be involved not only with FRC, but also other civic and community organizations and their personal lives.
Since its start up during the 1993-1994 school year, the Lauderdale County Family Resource Center has maintained the goal of “connecting-the-links” of families with minor children in our school system to resources needed for overall success. These resources include basic needs such as food, clothing, and housing supports as well as more challenging needs such as drop-out prevention, discipline skills, parenting strategies, and others.
The FRC is thankful for the continued support of the State Department of Education, Lauderdale County Department of Education, the United Way of the Mid-South, Xi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., New Hope-Cherry Baptist Church, local businesses, and community members who provide supplies and donations for specific projects of the FRC.
