As we prepare for #BackToSchool season, we are #LauderdaleProud of our dedicated educators who have returned to Lauderdale County to educate and serve. Meet HHS Teacher, Emily Winters Wright! A 2010 graduate of Halls High School, Emily Wright continued her education at Dyersburg State Community College and completed her undergraduate studies at Union University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a Creative Writing concentration and a minor in Secondary Education. Emily teaches High School English at her alma mater. In addition, she is author and has published two short stories in The Copperfield Review and two poems in The Tennessee Magazine. She currently has three novels in publication: Trial of Strength, Trial by Fire, and Trial of Courage. When asked about her favorite parts of her career, Emily said: “As a teacher, I enjoy talking with students about literature and writing. I like being able to share my love of stories with my students and perhaps open the door to them to find books that they enjoy. Building positive relationships with students is also a part of my job that I enjoy because serving as a mentor to students is the reason I went into teaching in the first place. As a writer, I enjoy the process of imagining characters and plots and bringing them to life and making them as true-to-life as possible so that readers can connect with the story. Answering questions from readers about the writing process is also enjoyable to me, since I can serve people in helping them along their own writing journey.” We are #LauderdaleProud of Emily’s dedication to our students and community!

As we prepare for another year of learning, we ask our families and community to join us in ensuring our students attend and remain at school each day. Missing 2 days of instructional time each month means that students miss out on 10% of the learning opportunities presented to them. Our faculties and staff are ready to welcome our students to #schooleveryday.

I make music everyday, and influence others with the sounds that flow from my fingertips. Also, there is NOTHING quite like the sound of a group of 100 little kids singing and enjoying making music together! Over my eleven years of teaching at RPS, I have had so many musical moments that moved me to tears. I hope my students will always remember singing and making music with "Ms. Rachel" and will continue to love making music throughout their school careers and lives.” We are #LauderdaleProud of Rachel’s dedication to our students and community!
