Our next #LauderdaleProud feature is Abby McBroom! Abby McBroom is a 2006 graduate of Ripley High School. She continued her education at Union University, where she graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. Abby graduated in the top 10 of her nursing class and was selected to Sigma Theta Tau, an international honor society for the field of nursing. Abby currently works at Sedgwick as a Complex Pharmacy Management Nurse. When asked about her favorite part of her career, Abby said: “We all know someone who has been touched by the opioid crisis that our country faces. My job allows me to advocate for my patients and help them ensure that the medications they are prescribed are the safest for their injury. I love being able to provide patient safety through education and advocacy. Most of all, I love being able to care for others and to make a difference.” Abby is another reason we are #LauderdaleProud!

Angela Barnes is the HHS and HJH school nurse. She has been a nurse for almost 25 years. She has spent the majority of those years working in geriatric and correctional settings. This will be her 3rd year at HHS/HJH. She is married to another HHS graduate, Jimmy (Class of 1985). Angela is proud to be back at her alma mater doing what she loves in a different and challenging level of nursing. Teresa Moore earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1994 and her Masters in 2010 from Union University. She began her teaching career at Ripley High School and also taught at Lauderdale Middle School. She has spent 23 of her 29 years teaching Math at Halls High School and has taught a variety of math classes including Pre-Calculus, Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry. Teresa is also heavily involved in the athletic program at Halls High School. She has coached softball for many years, and she has also coached volleyball and basketball. Outside of Halls High School, Teresa is a local business owner. She started All Star Pet Care in 2020 and has seen the business grow to the point that the kennels are always full and she has had to add both workers and kennel space. She is proud to be part of Halls High School’s academic and athletic staff and enjoys the chance to help students in the classroom and on the field. Cindy Ream graduated from Lambuth University in 1993, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She earned her Master of Education in Leadership and Instruction from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1997. Cindy taught kindergarten and preschool for 29 years. She is currently teaching Inclusion and Intervention at HHS and is beginning her 31st year of teaching. She is married to David, and they have three sons who are all HHS graduates. She loves teaching at Halls High School and enjoys working with new and former students. Beth Keen attended Union University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts in Education. She continued her work at Union to earn her library endorsement. She taught English at Ripley High School for 10 years before moving to Halls Elementary School, where she served as librarian for 15 years. She is currently serving her 5th year as librarian at Halls High School. Beth is married to another HHS graduate, Randy (Class of 1985). They have two sons, a 2022 HHS graduate and an upcoming HHS graduate with the Class of 2024. Beth is proud to serve her hometown and stay involved in the lives of HHS students. When combined, these 4 members of the HHS Class of 1989 have served a total of almost a century educating students in Lauderdale County. They are #LauderdaleProud!

LCS families, The remainder of this school week will bring high heat indices to our area. All schools will exercise caution in allowing outdoor recreational activities. After school athletic activities will be closely monitored according to TSSAA guidelines for excessive heat. Heat indices will also be monitored for Friday night’s football games. Please be prepared for the potential of delayed game start times. Our afternoon bus riders, especially those who ride longer routes, will have access to bottled water on each bus Thursday and Friday afternoons to provide relief from the heat. Buses will have windows lowered to allow extra airflow to move throughout.
